What is a Fork-King motorbike fork support?

Fork-King Fork Supports are a simpler, smarter type of motorcycle fork support for use in dirt bike  transportation.

By having a full length thread with easy twist nut, these fork supports are able to quickly extend from the tyre to the mudguard leaving no gap.

Designed in Australia, Fork-Kings are able to suit most sizes of dirt bikes making transportation safer for your bike and others on the road.

Forget trying to pull your dirt bike down to meet the fork support, let the fork support take the effort away.

Fork-Kings are made of Nylon 66 with the addition of 25% glass fibre, this gives the product great strength to withstand constant pounding (no Fork-King pun intended).

The Fork-King Fork Support consists of 3 parts, the thread, the nut and the outer shaft.

Though there are 3 parts, they do not come part unless fully disassembled. This is due to the smart nut which keeps the pieces locked together, so there is no chance of you loosing one part.

Another design aspect of the Fork-King is the ability to easily modify the support in order to reduce the length so it can be used on dirt bikes that are less than 125cc.

Our easy to follow ‘how to’ video shows how simple this process is.

Fork-Kings are designed in and shipped from Australia so you can be confident that you are shopping locally an getting the best quality product.

Why you need a Fork-King motorbike fork support

Have you ever wondered ‘why’ do you need a fork support for your motorbike? Well, there are a few reasons really.

The first reason is to stop pressure on your front suspension when transporting your motorcycle. When we pull down on our tie down straps we’re also pulling down on our suspension which in turn creates excessive pressure on springs and fork seals which can lead to the inconvenience, time and cost of having to replace the seals.

The second, and probably more important reason is to ensure that your bike remains safely on the back of your trailer or ute when transporting.

Without a fork support your bike has the ability to come loose due to the suspension being able to compress and decompress.

The Fork-King Journey

It all started around the year of 1994, when a young Shaun Hickson decided he was going to race Fork-King motorbikes. His parents were sceptical at the time, because he was Fork-King terrible on a bike. But being the ever supportive parents, they purchased a CR80 and joined the Macleay District Motorcycle Club. After many races on that CR80, there was little improvement, but as many of Shauns friends were very competitive racers, the family joined them in travelling the state of NSW to further showcase Shaun’s Fork-King awful talent on a motorcycle. Due to this extensive travelling, Shauns father Ross realised the used 5L oil drum under the front guard was doing Fork-King nothing as seals kept wearing. A bit of M12 allthread and old VW exhaust and the very first Fork-King was created. It worked well and soon Ross made a couple more and gave to close friends.

The same original Fork-King was used when Shaun upgraded to a CR125, although his talent on a bike showed little improvement. But still the family travelled NSW and interstate yet there were no more blown fork seals.

1998 Shaun had quite a successful year on the 125, winning the 125cc class at club level for Macleay and Coffs clubs, top 3 in 250cc class also at both clubs on the 125 and finishing 5th overall in the NSW state titles. This was due to most of his Fork-King friends not riding that year.

That was the last year Shaun raced.

Fast forward 17 years and Shaun starts to look at a side project to his regular job with a construction company. Being a boilermaker by trade and only knowing how to join steel, Shaun makes MK2 Fork-King based on the same principle as Ross’ version, but way stronger. First reveal to a bike shop not far from home is positive and they want to stock all 10 prototypes. Shaun thinks “ that’s Fork-King great”.

But now being in a Project Planning role with his construction company, he realises material cost, time to fabricate and sale price isn’t viable. Fork-King hell!

Immediately Shaun thinks of plastic.

Having self taught himself basic 3D CAD, he draws the first prototype. He engages Downtown Kustoms in Taree to 3D print a couple of different designs.

He engages an injection moulding company in Brisbane and gets pricing on tooling and moulding.

Although Fork-King expensive, Shaun’s ever supporting wife Alison encourages him to pursue his passion.

Many prototypes later the final Fork-King is due to be available to purchase in early 2019!

It’s been a long road to get to this point and this has been quite a long Fork-King story but we appreciate the help and support we’ve received to date.

Hopefully you enjoy using your Fork-King as much as we enjoyed creating it.
